AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Objective
To undertake the development of appropriate agricultural technologies using participatory approaches.

Functions

• To undertake research in farming systems, crops and environmental friendly agricultural technologies
• To collect, document and disseminate agricultural research findings

The Division will be led by a Director and will have three Sections as follows:-

• Crop Research Section
• Farming Systems and Socio-Economic Research Section
• Special Programmes Research Section

Crop Research Section

The Section will perform the following activities:-

• Research on crop husbandry and agronomic practices
• Research on crop protection (Disease, insect and weed control)
• Research on post harvest technologies
• Collect and conserve plant genetic resources for crop improvement (breeding)
• Develop and use Biotechnology
• Document and disseminate crop research technologies to farmers through extension services and media

The Section will be led by an Assistant Director.

Farming System and Socio-Economic Research Section

The Section will perform the following activities: ‑

• Research on farming systems and social economic linkages
• Research on clientele participatory approaches in all stages of research
• Research on adaptation of technologies and constraints
• Research on farm budgets and returns to improvement packages
• Classify and analyze farming systems
• Focus activities on farming systems
• Enhance coordination with all stakeholders
• Promote systems orientation to research
• Analyze institutional and policy-induced constraints to technology development at farm level

The Section will be led by an Assistant Director.

Special Programs Research Section

The Section will perform the following activities: ‑

• Research on soil fertility, nutrition, soil and water conservation
• Research on conservation agriculture, soil, plant and water analysis
• Research on tree species suitable for fuel wood, fodder and for improving soil fertility
• Research on Bio – energy
• Research on adaptation of irrigation
• Research on farm implements

The Section will be led by an Assistant Director.
